On Friday, May 26, Gill scored 129 runs off 60 balls with seven fours and 10 sixes and helped the Titans beat MI by 62 runs. Hardik, who scored a quick-fire 13-ball 28, said that Gill’s hundreds is one of the best he has ever witnessed.
“It is something which I told him as well that I have been very fortunate to see a lot of T20 hundreds. But what I saw today was one of the finest I have seen. I am very proud of you,” Hardik was quoted as saying while interviewing Shubman after the match.
Hardik also added some humour, saying that he gets scared of Shubman’s batting at times. He also praised Gill for his dedication, confidence and self-belief.
“Sometimes we have to stop him because of the amount of batting he does. I get scared seeing him bat that much. I told in the presentation that what I enjoyed, not only today, is the confidence you are carrying around and the self-belief you have,” he added.
Gill, in the meantime, also became the Orange Cap holder of the IPL 2023 after going past Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Faf du Plessis. Gill also became the second batter after Michael Klinger to score three T20 hundreds in four innings.
Moreover, Shubman equalled Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle’s record of most T20 hundreds in a calendar year (4). Gill also became the third batter after du Plessis and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan to score 1000 runs in T20 cricket in 2023.
