IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav storm in Bengaluru blows RCB away as LSG climb points table

Mayank Yadav’s searing pace combined with Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran’s batting firepower ensures LSG’s comprehensive 28-run win over RCB in the IPL 2024 clash at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Mayank rattled the RCB batting line-up to silence the roaring crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium by firing eight deliveries over 150 kmph in a single match. The tearaway fast bowler picked up three crucial wickets and conceded only 14 runs, leading LSG to their second win of the season. After posting 181 for 5, LSG produced a superlative bowling effort to bowl RCB out for 153 for a convincing victory and climbed to the fourth spot in the points table. This was RCB’s second successive loss at their home ground.

Mayank also bowled the fastest delivery that clocked an astonishing 156.7kph to zip through the air, leaving the batsman, and indeed everyone watching, in awe. Lucknow began their bowling innings with spinners operating from both ends, effectively putting pressure on Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis during the initial two overs of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s pursuit of 182 runs. Despite their attempts to recover, Kohli succumbed to M Siddharth’s bowling in the fifth over, while du Plessis suffered a run-out off the very first delivery of the sixth over, delivered by the fast bowler Mayank Yadav. But RCB still had hope with both Australian all-rounders yet to get off the mark.

However, LSG’s pace weapon Mayank Yadav made sure that both Australian all-rounders could not get going. First, Mayank Yadav’s thunderous delivery, bowled at the speed of 151kph, proved too much for Glenn Maxwell, resulting in the latter’s dismissal for a duck and sending shockwaves reverberating throughout the stadium. Despite being recognized as one of the world’s finest batters, Maxwell could only muster a feeble shot, sending the ball straight to mid-on. Yadav’s relentless assault continued as he swiftly claimed the wicket of Cameron Green, dealing another blow to RCB’s already faltering batting lineup. At the end of 10 overs they were teetering at 63/4, and just during this period, it was Mayank, who ran riot with the ball in hand. In his three over until this point, he picked up two wickets by giving away just three runs. Then came a kind of fightback from Bengaluru, but it just wasn’t enough. Mahipal Lomror hit a few lusty blows to keep his side in the game, but he single-handedly could not do much.

DE KOCK, POORAN POWER LSG TO 181

Quinton de Kock’s superb 80-run knock combined with Nicholas Pooran’s 40-run cameo helped LSG post a competitive total of 181 for five against the RCB in their recent IPL encounter. De Kock’s innings of 81 runs off 55 balls was characterized by precise shot selection, particularly targeting pacer Mohammed Siraj, whom he dispatched for three sixes, including two powerful pulls and a stylish loft over mid-wicket.

Although the Super Giants started briskly, with a score of 54 for no loss within the Power Play overs, much of the momentum came solely from De Kock’s blade. Captain KL Rahul initially struggled but managed to inject some impetus into his innings with well-timed hits, only to fall to a clever delivery from Glenn Maxwell shortly thereafter. Devdutt Padikkal, too, endured a challenging stint before his dismissal by Siraj.

Following Padikkal’s departure, De Kock found a steady partner in Marcus Stoinis, as they combined for a crucial 56-run partnership. However, Stoinis’s dismissal at a crucial juncture halted their progress, leaving the Super Giants longing for a more substantial total. Nicholas Pooran’s late assault, highlighted by a flurry of sixes, provided some late fireworks, but it was evident that the Super Giants would have preferred a higher score to defend.
