Actor Alia Bhatt’s next film, Jigra, looks like an intriguing watch based on its first teaser, which was released on Sunday, September 8.
The film, directed by Vasan Bala, known for films like Monica, O My Darling and Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, presents a story of ‘courage, passion, and determination’. It also stars actor Vedang Raina, who made his debut with Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies.
In the teaser, Alia appears as a protective sibling to her brother, played by Vedang, who has been arrested by the police in a foreign country. Throughout the teaser, we see her running, dodging bullets, fighting tough adversaries, and training hard to bring back her brother. Actor Manoj Pahwa seems to play her mentor, who at one point tells her, “Bachchan nahi banna hai, bach kar nikalna hai (It is not time to be a hero like Amitabh Bachchan; you have to run).” She replies, “Ab toh Bachchan hi banna hai (I have to be a hero).”
As the teaser progresses, a recreated version of the beautiful song about sibling bonds, Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka, plays in the background. The song, originally sung by Kishore Kumar, was featured in the Dev Anand film Hare Rama Hare Krishna. To keep viewers intrigued, Alia has been regularly sharing posters of Jigra. Her look in the film has also impressed her mother-in-law, actor Neetu Kapoor, who commented on one of them saying, “Wow fierce,” followed by a fire emoji. For the film, Alia underwent training in basketball.
Alia has also co-produced Jigra with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Talking about the film, the actor had earlier said, “Just a little over a year later, we are ready to launch our second production – Jigra, a beautiful story of courage, passion, and determination. I hope to consistently support compelling narratives that are authentic, enduringly timeless, and work with brilliant creative minds to bring them to life.”
Alia Bhatt first turned producer in 2022 with the film Darlings. She announced her production house, ‘Eternal Sunshine’. Jigra will release in cinemas on October 11. It was earlier scheduled for a September 27 release. However, the makers postponed the film after the makers of Telugu actor Jr NTR’s Devara: Part 1 announced that the much-awaited pan-Indian movie will be released on September 27.
