Leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) Jagmeet Singh on Tuesday called on the Justin Trudeau-led Liberal government to stand up for the country.

And fight against US President-elect Donald Trump’s intention to impose a 25 percent tariff on goods from Canada, along with Mexico. Hours after Trump’s announcement of Tarrifs, the NCP leader took to X and wrote, “Stand up and fight like hell. Canadian jobs are on the line.”

The Canadian leader’s call for government action came after Trump vowed to impose tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, along with a 10 percent tariff on imports from China in response to the illegal drug trade and immigration.

Trump Vows To Impose Tariff
In a series of posts to his Truth Social social media account, Trump vowed to impose sweeping tariffs on all goods entering the United Nations from some of the country’s largest trading partners. He also said that the tariffs would remain in place until the two countries clamp down on drugs and migrants crossing the border illegally.

“On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25 percent tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders,” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, Trump said he would also be slapping China with a 10 percent tariff, “above any additional Tariffs,” on all of its products entering the US in response to its failure to tackle fentanyl smuggling.

Notably, tariffs are a key part of Trump’s economic agenda. The Republican President-elect earlier during his campaigning ahead of elections vowed wide-ranging duties on allies and adversaries.
