England captain Jos Buttler welcomed compatriot Joe Root to the Rajasthan Royals squad ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Notably, Buttler, the current England captain, has been a key member of the Rajasthan Royals team since 2018 while Root is gearing up for his maiden IPL stint.

Root has begun his preparations for the 2023 Indian Premier League season by hitting the nets for the Rajasthan Royals. In the video posted by the franchise on their social media, the English batter played some sublime drives as well as a scoop shot. Root was signed by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2023 auction.

“The guy I’m introducing needs no introduction, I’m sure we’ve all watched Joe having an amazing career so far. And I know how excited you are to be a part of the IPL, how much you are gonna get from it and how much you’re gonna give to the group,” Buttler said in a video posted by RR on social media.

Buttler wished Root ahead of his maiden IPL stint and urged him to enjoy the experience of playing in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals.

“But of course, for us as a team, everyone in here is gonna learn so much from you and everything you’ll give to the group. So good luck, enjoy the experience, enjoy everything the Royals and IPL has to offer and looking forward to you having a great season,” Buttler concluded.

Last year, the Rajasthan Royals reached the IPL final but did not win the trophy as the Sanju Samson-led side Gujarat Titans defeated them by seven wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium to win the title. RR have signed the likes of Joe Root, Adam Zampa, Murugan Ashwin, Jason Holder, and Donavon Ferreira ahead of the new season. It will be interesting to see if the RR team can win their second IPL title.
