JugJugg Jeeyo, the family drama starring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Varun Dhawan, had a good weekend with its total box office collection coming to more than ₹36 crore.

The film released in theatres on Friday and received positive reviews from critics. It also stars Maniesh Paul and Prajakta Koli.

The Raj Mehta directorial had a decent opening on Friday, but registered an impressive growth during the weekend. After showing an improvement of around 34 percent on Saturday, it further grew to register Sunday collections of around ₹14.50 crore.

A Boxofficeindia.com report states: “JugJugg Jeeyo did pretty well on Sunday as it collected around ₹14.50 crore nett as the mass markets show very good growth on Sunday and it has reasonably growth of 20 percent overall.”

Ahead of the film’s release, director Raj Mehta, who earlier delivered a hit in Good Newwz, said that he was nervous as many big films haven’t worked at the box office lately.

He told PTI, “There are new theories coming out every week about what kind of films will work or won’t. Some say the trend is of big films, some say that’s not the case entirely. There’s a lot of uncertainty, I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to work. Does that add to the anxiety? Absolutely.”

He further said, “Because you can never be confident that you’ve made a film that’s going to do well. This is my second film, I’m following up a successful debut, so there’s that pressure as well. But the times are such that you don’t know what is going to work.”

JuggJugg Jeeyo earlier landed into a controversy as Pakistani singer Abrar-ul-Haq said that the film’s The Punjaabban Song has been recreated from his original, Nach Punjaban, without purchasing legal rights of the song. However, Varun recently said during one of his promotional interviews that the production company had bought the rights of the song.
