Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut shared a video on X and clarified that her upcoming film ‘Emergency’ has not been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The actor’s clarification came amid rumours of the film being passed by the censor board. ‘Emergency’ which features Kangana as former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, is scheduled to release in theatres on September 6, 2024.

The actor, in the video, claimed that the censor board has been receiving death threats regarding a few scenes in the film. “There are certain rumors that my film ‘Emergency’ has been cleared by the censor board, but that’s not true. In fact, our film was initially cleared, but the certification has been put on hold as the censor board is receiving death threats.

There is pressure being put on us to remove certain scenes, such as the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the Punjab riots, and more. Now, I don’t know what else to show. What are we supposed to do—blackout the film during these scenes? This is unbelievable to me, and I am deeply sorry for the current state of thinking in this country,” she said in the video.

This controversy arises as Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ faces calls for a ban. The film is likely to be banned in Telangana, where a delegation of 18 members from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, has accused the movie of portraying the community as terrorists and anti-nationals.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has assured Sikh community leaders that the state government would consider banning the release of Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency’ pending legal consultation, government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir said.

Kangana Ranaut is currently busy promoting her upcoming drama, ‘Emergency’. The film, also starring Anupam Kher, will release in the theatres on September 6.
