India Today has obtained exclusive CCTV footage of Sanjay Roy, the civic volunteer.

Who has been arrested for raping and murdering a trainee doctor at a government-run Kolkata hospital earlier this month. The footage captured at RG Kar Hospital shows Sanjay Roy entering the medical facility on the night of August 9 when he committed the heinous crime.

This is the first time such conclusive visual proof has surfaced, directly linking the accused.

In the footage, Sanjay Roy is seen wearing jeans and a t-shirt, with a helmet in hand — a helmet that is notably part of the uniform issued to Kolkata Police officials.

A Bluetooth device is visible around Sanjay Roy’s neck in the footage. The same device which was later recovered by the police from the crime scene and is now a key exhibit in the ongoing investigation.

A 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 while she was taking rest after completing her shift. Her semi-nude body with injuries was discovered inside the seminar hall the next morning.

Roy was arrested the next day for his alleged involvement in the crime.

Soon after the incident came to light, thousands of doctors and medical staff staged a nationwide protest to express their solidarity with the victim and demanded strict punishment for those responsible. Healthcare professionals also ceased work in many cities.

A recent psychoanalytic profile of Sanjay Roy indicated that he was addicted to pornography, had “animal-like instincts” and showed no remorse for the crime.

“The man showed no repentance and narrated the entire episode giving every minute detail without hiccups. It appeared that he had no remorse,” a CBI official told news agency PTI.

Before the investigation was handed over to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court, Kolkata Police had also found a large chunk of pornographic content on the mobile phone seized from Roy.

Based on the CCTV footage collected from the hospital, Roy could be seen near the chest department ward at around 11 am on August 8.

Sources had even told India Today TV that Roy also visited a ‘red light area’ in North Kolkata after midnight on August 8. He was also intoxicated and later asked a random woman for her nude photograph.

“Footage showed him entering the same building again at around 4 am on August 9. Certain technical and scientific evidence corroborated that,” the officer added.
