The father of the trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered while on duty at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, revealed.

That his daughter’s final entry in her personal diary was to become a gold medallist in her course. She wrote it on the day of the horrific incident before leaving for her night shift.

“She would be immersed in books all day…She worked very hard,” he said of his daughter, who was pursuing postgraduate (MD) at the reputed medical college and hospital.

Commending his daughter for her bravery, he told India Today TV that she “fought a lot to reach her goal of becoming a doctor”. “We made many sacrifices while raising her,” he said.

He further told India Today TV that he is “overwhelmed” by the outpouring of support for his daughter from across the country.

“I won’t get my daughter back. But all I could do is have courage and be hopeful. The show of support from around the country is giving us a lot of courage to fight for justice,” he said.

Speaking about the investigation into the case being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he said that there is no particular satisfaction for the same because nothing will bring him his daughter back.

“We are now hopeful of justice. We must not lose hope,” he added.

The father called for the death penalty for the criminals, saying they should face consequences for killing his daughter in such a brutal manner.

“The sooner they are punished, the better. We will get some solace, though nothing can replace our loss,” he told India Today TV.

He said that the college administration never supported his daughter. He also said that there had been no political pressure from any party.

The body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of the Bengal government-run hospital on Friday (August 9) morning in a semi-naked condition. A civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, Sanjoy Roy, has been arrested in connection with the case.

The parents of the 31-year-old trainee doctor were initially told by an official from the medical college and hospital that she died by suicide. The four-page autopsy report revealed gruesome details about her death.

There have been massive protests across India over the rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor. Kolkata witnessed the ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest on Wednesday night, but it soon turned chaotic as a mob entered the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and vandalised the place. Several people were injured as a result, and the police had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
