Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film ‘Pathaan’ landed in a controversy after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra frowned upon the colour of the attire used in the movie’s first song, Besharam Rang.
As netizens continue to debate on the internet, Maharashtra BJP leader Ram Kadam said the filmmakers should clarify their position. He added that the state will not screen any film or serial that insults Hindutva.
He also questioned the filmmakers if the movie was a ploy to gain “cheap publicity” or whether there was a conspiracy behind their decision. The BJP leader said, “Several Hindu organisations and even on social media voices have offered criticism. Isn’t it the moral responsibility of the makers to clear their stand rather than keep quiet on the issue? Is this a move to gather cheap publicity and is there a conspiracy?”
Ram Kadam added that since the state of Maharashtra has a BJP government which follows the Hindutva ideals, the government will not allow any film or serial to run which insults Hindutva emotions.
PATHAAN MOVIE CONTROVERSY
Boycott Pathaan emerged as one of the top Twitter trends after a section of netizens objected to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Besharam Rang. The film is slated for release on January 25, 2023.
Activists of an outfit on Wednesday staged a protest against the upcoming Bollywood film ‘Pathaan’ and its song ‘Besharam Rang’ in MP’s Indore. An effigy of Shah Rukh Khan was burnt as an outfit carried out a protest against Pathaan movie in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore and called for its ban for “hurting Hindu sentiments”.
Meanwhile, the singer of Besharam Rang, Caralisa Monteiro in an exclusive interview with India Today said, “The only association of the colour saffron is in our national flag from school, that I remember, is that it stands for courage and selflessness. I don’t know which MP (Madhya Pradesh minister) took offence, but I’m pretty sure our country has far more pressing issues that need attention than the colour of costumes used in a fictional movie.”
