When one thinks of Bollywood and fitness, one name immediately pops up and that is Malaika Arora. The model, actor, and VJ has over the years, established herself as a fitness enthusiast.
Arora routinely shares yoga videos with her 18.8 million Instagram followers. Most recently, she shared a video that showed her doing yoga poses by using a wall to support her poses.
In the short clip, Arora demonstrated more than 10 wall yoga poses. These were: an extended triangle pose, straight plank, low plank, one-legged headstand, wall headstand, a variation of Marjariasana, Salabhasana, wall crunches, upward plank pose, hip bridge with crunch, bridge crunch, and shoulder stand variation.
With this video, she proved that one does not need a range of fancy equipment to do yoga. Just a wall and good knowledge of yoga are enough to make a perfect yoga routine. Arora wore a black sports bralette and black biker shorts which emphasised her fit and toned body, even at the age of 50. While sharing the wall yoga video, she wrote, “Sky above, earth below, peace within.” This video got over 53,000 likes since it was shared on May 1. An Instagram user commented, “I would love to do this under your guidance.”
In a 2021 interview with The Statesman, Arora said that her favourite exercise is yoga and she does at least 60 minutes of yoga each day. The Chaiyya Chaiyya star said, “I start my day with a good morning session of yoga and then I step outside to do a mix of other fitness activities as well like HIIT, walking, running, swimming, and so on.” Despite being a fitness freak, Arora said she doesn’t believe in strict dieting. She explained, “I eat what my body demands and what my mind desires, of course in moderation.”
Arora took her love for yoga an extra mile when she co-founded Diva Yoga studio which has multiple branches in Mumbai and Chennai. While speaking to Elle about what inspired her to start a yoga studio, Arora said, “I was introduced to yoga years ago when I suffered an injury, and since then my love affair with it has only become stronger. So when the opportunity to be a part of Diva Yoga came my way, I jumped at it. It’s in sync with my beliefs about fitness, my love for yoga, and more importantly, I’ve always wanted to create a yoga studio that was dedicated to women.”
