A man was arrested by the police for allegedly threatening on-duty doctors of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which was in the news recently after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.

According to the police, the man, identified as Satya Ranjan Mahapatra, came to the Trauma Care unit of the hospital at around 1.50 am on Wednesday along with another person for the treatment of Sikhar, who was injured in a road accident.

After admitting Sikhar to the hospital, Mahapatra allegedly abused the doctors and even issued death threats to them. According to sources, a dispute broke out between doctors and Sikhar’s attendants over the alleged delay in treatment.

Police personnel, who were on duty at the hospital, detained Mahapatra and Sikhar was transferred to another hospital.

Later, the principal of the hospital lodged a complaint at Tala Police Station and an FIR was registered based on his complaint, following which Mahapatra was arrested.

Police said that during interrogation, Mahapatra denied giving death threats to the doctors and claimed that the doctors were delaying Sikhar’s delay. However, he said that an argument broke out between him and the doctors on this issue and he “misbehaved with them” in the “heat of the moment”.
