AAP leader Manish Sisodia will visit Arvind Kejriwal’s residence today during which discussions on the name of the next Delhi Chief Minister may happen.

This will be the first meeting between the two leaders following Kejriwal’s announcement on Sunday that he will resign from the chief ministerial post. Arvind Kejriwal, who was released from the Tihar Jail on Friday after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the liquor policy case, announced his decision in his first address to AAP leaders and workers. He had also said that a legislative party meeting is expected to be held within the next two days to decide on his replacement.

“I am going to resign from the Chief Minister’s position after two days. I will not sit in the Chief Minister’s chair until the people give their verdict… I will go to every house and street and not sit in the Chief Minister’s chair till I get a verdict from the people,” he said.

In a post on X on Sunday, Sisoda said that he too will only return as the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi if the public “approves his honesty”. “I worked honestly, but attempts were made to prove me dishonest by making false allegations against me under petty politics. I was kept in jail for 17 months on false charges. After two years of legal process, now even the country’s top court has told me to go and do my work.

But I will not sit in the chair of Deputy Chief Minister-Education Minister right now. I did not come into politics here for the greed of chairs and posts. I have come to work honestly on education. I have also decided that I will go to public court along with Arvind Kejriwal and ask whether the public considers me honest or not. Elections are to be held in three-four months. Only if the public approves my honesty, I will sit in the chair of Deputy Chief Minister-Education Minister and work for education. Jai Hind,” his tweet, roughly translated from Hindi, read.

During Sunday’s address, Arvind Kejriwal ruled out that Manish Sisodia would be his replacement. “I spoke to Manish, he too has said that he will handle the post only after the people say we are honest. The fate of Sisodia and I is now in your hands”, the Delhi Chief Minister said.

Sources close to the AAP said that Kejriwal will leave the Chief Minister house within 15 days after resigning from the top post. Party insiders further said that the decision to step down was taken by Kejriwal himself during a closed-door meeting of senior AAP leaders.
