The monsoon season is expected to arrive in Uttar Pradesh in 2-3 days, bringing rain to most parts of the state.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. Officials added that pre-monsoon conditions have already become active, and several parts of the state are likely to get rain from Saturday, bringing relief to the scorching heat.

According to the weather department, the heatwave is likely to continue only in Western UP, and the mercury will go down in Eastern UP from Saturday.

The IMD has announced that the monsoon has reached Bihar. If everything goes well, it will enter Uttar Pradesh in the next two to three days. There are chances of good rain in and around the capital, Lucknow, on June 23-24.

“Advanced monsoon conditions will arise in Central India and East India. The heatwave conditions will continue for five days in one or two areas of Western Uttar Pradesh, and the rest will get relief,” the weather officials said.

Rain is expected in 24 districts of the state on Saturday. There is a warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and rain in Eastern UP for the next five days and an alert of heavy rain on June 25, the officials added.

Many areas in the state received pre-monsoon rain on Friday, bringing down the temperature below 40 degrees. The minimum temperature was also recorded below 30 degrees.

Heavy rain was reported in Moradabad on Friday, and thick clouds covered Lucknow, Bareilly, and Prayagraj. On Thursday, rain was received in at least 30 cities in the state, with maximum rain in Siddharthnagar and Ambedkarnagar.

This resulted in a drop of 8-10°C in temperature. The minimum temperature in Meerut was recorded at 23.1°C, whereas Prayagraj remained the hottest district with 43.6°C. Fatehpur had the hottest night, with the minimum temperature recorded at 30.6°C.

Meanwhile, heatwaves will continue in a few parts of Western UP from June 21 to 23. However, thunderstorms and lightning are expected there on June 24 and 25.
