Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has told the Bombay High Court that he wants to only see his two children and if that is done, then he will withdraw his habeas corpus petition.

Advocate Pradeep Thorat, representing the actor, said that the children were missing from their school in Dubai and he was unable to trace them.

“That was the only reason that a habeas corpus was filed. I am aware of the limited relief that I can get in this petition. He has not seen his children physically. This is his limited concern. After that I will withdraw the petition,” said Thorat.

Advocate Shikhar Khandelwal, appearing for Siddiqui’s estranged wife, said that the petition was infructuous because when it was filed the woman with the two children were living in a bungalow owned by the actor’s mother.

“My client is willing to settle the matter. But when she is living with the children at the actor’s mother’s residence, then how is it possible that he does not know where they are? He is very much free to meet his children. He is the one who is not meeting them,” Khandelwal said.

Thorat further said that Siddiqui’s estranged wife was facing an FIR registered by his family and she had approached the Bombay High Court to quash that FIR. In that case, another division bench of the judges had asked both the parties to come before them in the chamber and settle the case. Thorat said that the estranged wife’s petition was last heard on March 14 and the next hearing is on March 27.

“All concerns as of now are being communicated through lawyers on email, which is basically for demand of money. On the next date of hearing, on March 27, the parties are to meet in the chamber of the judges. We can keep this case after that,” suggested Thorat.

While Khandelwal objected to Thorat’s statement about “demand for money”, and asked for proof of the same to be shown, the bench agreed with Thorat about first waiting to see if there could be an amicable settlement.

Issues erupted between the couple after the estranged wife and the children, who live in Dubai, had landed in Mumbai, which led to the two being involved in a legal battle. Siddiqui’s petition had stated that his permission was not taken before the children were brought from the UAE to India.
