The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the release of notorious serial killer Charles Sobraj, infamously known as the ‘bikini killer’.
A bench of judges Sapna Pradhan Malla and Til Prasad Shrestha ordered Sobhraj’s release.
Bimal Paudel, a spokesperson of the Supreme Court, said Sobhraj filed a petition to be released from jail and the court passed orders for his release on grounds of his age.
Charles Sobhraj came to be known as the ‘bikini killer’ due to the clothes his victims–usually tourists on vacation–were often found wearing.
Charles Sobhraj was involved in a number of murder, theft and cheating cases. He was arrested on the charges of murdering two American tourists when he travelled to Nepal in 2003 and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Supreme Court also passed orders for his deportation within 15 days of his release.
