Nitu Ghanghas assured of her maiden World Boxing Championships medal, enters semi-finals in New Delhi world meet

Nitu Ghanghas opened India’s account at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi on Wednesday, March 22 after she reached.

The semi-final of the 48kg category at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall. Nitu, who won the Commonwealth Games gold medal in her maiden appearance in 2022, was on fire in the quarter-final bout.

The 22-year-old boxer was dominant so much so against Madoka Wada of Japan that the referee had to stop the contest in the second round. Nitu Ghanghas is now assured of at least a bronze medal.

Notably, this was Nitu Ghanghas’s maiden medal at the World Boxing Championships.

Nitu has won all her 3 bouts in New Delhi by knocking out opponents, flaunting her dominance at the highest level.

MANISHA LOSES
Meanwhile, Manisha Maoun (57kg) lost the quarter-final on Wednesday in New Delhi to miss out on a medal. She lost to Amina Zadani 4-1 via split decision in the last-eight round.

Six Indian pugilists, including reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Sakshi Choudhary (52kg), Jaismine Lamboria (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Saweety Boora (81kg) and Nupur Sheoran (+81kg), will look to make the semi-final stages as their bouts are scheduled for later on Wednesday.

It was Nitu who opened India’s account at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year. The young boxer from Haryana credited her father for the success that has come her way at the professional level. Notaby, Nitu’s father had been traveling with the young pugilist for major tournaments while managing his professional commitments as well.

“I have got a lot of support from my family, especially from my father, who did not take any pay for three years and accompanied me every single day in my training. He’s never said that she is a girl so we won’t support her, he has been there throughout my training and my diet,” Nitu had told India Today last year.
