National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is likely to visit China soon for Special Representative talks, sources said on Monday.

This comes days after External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar made a detailed statement on India-China relations in both Houses of the Parliament. Highlighting the improvement in the ties between the two countries after four years, Jaishankar had told the Lok Sabha on December 3 that full disengagement has been achieved in eastern Ladakh, adding that India-China relations have seen “some improvements”.

Jaishankar noted that India’s next priority would be to continue de-escalation.

“Recent developments that reflect continuous diplomatic engagements have set Indo-China ties in the direction of some improvement. Disengagement has been achieved in full in eastern Ladakh,” Jaishankar said.

“Recent developments that reflect our continuous diplomatic engagement since then have set our ties in the direction of some improvement. The House is cognizant of the fact that China is an illegal occupation of 38,000 square km of the Indian territory in Aksai Chin as a result of the 1962 conflicts and the events that preceded it,” he added.

India and China have had a military standoff since May 2020, after both troops came face to face in a violent confrontation in the Galwan Valley.
