A passenger was killed, and 20 others were injured after a bus carrying 45 people from Chennai to Coimbatore overturned and fell into a ditch near the Chengalpattu district.
The deceased was identified as Manikandan, a resident of Kanyakumari, police said. According to police, the incident took place after the driver, identified as Arun Kumar (30), lost control of the vehicle near the Chengalpattu district, next to Pazhaveli village on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway.
The bus overturned and plunged into a roadside ditch as the driver lost control. Upon learning of the incident, a Chengalpattu Taluk police team arrived promptly, recovering the man’s body at the scene.
Subsequently, the police transported the body to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for post-mortem.
The twenty people with injuries received medical attention before being admitted to a nearby hospital in Chengalpattu district.
Chengalpattu Taluk Police registered a case related to the accident, attributing the loss of control to heavy rainfall, causing a significant traffic jam on both sides of the Chennai-Trichy National Highway.
