Traffic was halted as an overflowing river flooded a portion of a road amid incessant rainfall in Maharashtra’s Palghar.

Due to this, commuters were forced to use a bridge over the river Deharje that was shut for renovation work. The road that was flooded was constructed as an alternate route as repairs on the bridge were ongoing.

Visuals showed people looking on at the submerged road from the bridge. Vehicles were also seen plying on the bridge that was under renovation. The district administration had urged people to use the alternate route, which is now under floodwaters.

On the other hand, local train services on the Western Railway were disrupted as tracks between Boisar and Umroli stations were flooded due to heavy rainfall. Due to the inclement weather, trains were running late by around 25 to 30 minutes.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more showers for the next six days, beginning June 20 (Thursday). A yellow alert was sounded for heavy rainfall today.

The Southwest Monsoon, which witnessed a slump in progress between June 12 and 18, was expected to advance into some more parts of Maharashtra in the next two to three days.
