Former Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi spoke about the Shraddha Walker murder case in Delhi and said, “Parents must keep track of their daughter even if the girl says she has nothing to do with you.

” Speaking to India Today, she said that the responsibility lies with the parents and family members for inquiring so late into her whereabouts.

She said Shraddha’s parents should have been more “curious”, while adding that the neighbours, the owner of the flat where she lived, should have taken up the responsibility. She added that it was apparent that the family failed. “It is a society failure, friends failed too,” she added.

She spoke on the “social responsibility” of raising a girl and said women must be told to raise red flags. She added that it is the family’s role to assure them that they should not be afraid of where they will live after they have raised such “red flags”.

Speaking on the investigation in the case, she said authorities must check how engaged Aaftab was on dating apps. “There must be something that Shraddha must have witnessed which led to the crime,” she added.

SHRADDHA WALKER MURDER CASE:
Delhi Police arrested Aaftab Ameen Poonawala for the murder of his live-in partner, Shraddha Walker. Following an argument between them, Aaftab strangled Shraddha on May 18, then proceeded to chop her body into 35 pieces. He then dumped her mortal remains in the Mehrauli forest area over a period of 18 days.

The two had met through a dating app and had been living together since 2019. They had eloped to Delhi after her parents objected to their being together.

However, things soured between the couple when Shraddha started pressing Aaftab for marriage. The two got into another quarrel surrounding marriage on May 18, after which he killed her.

The murder came to light almost six months later when Shraddha’s father filed a missing persons complaint after her friends said they had been unable to contact her for days.
