Petrol, Diesel prices today: Fuel rates remain stable on Sunday| Check rates in Delhi, Mumbai
It has been almost two months and the oil marketing companies (OMCs) have kept the prices of diesel and petrol unchanged since November 3, 2021.
There has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel across major Indian cities on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
In Delhi, petrol is retailing at Rs 95.41 per litre and diesel costs Rs 86.67 per litre. In India’s financial capital, Mumbai, the prices of petrol and diesel stand at Rs 109.98 per litre and Rs 94.14 per litre, respectively.
In Kolkata, petrol costs Rs 104.67 per litre and people have to shell out Rs 89.97 for one litre of diesel. The November 4 decline took the prices of petrol and diesel down to Rs 101.40 per litre and Rs 91.43 per litre in Chennai, respectively.
Centre announces excise cut on Diwali eve
On November 3, the government cut the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 per litre, respectively, giving a big relief to consumers. It was the highest-ever reduction in excise duty.
Following this, many NDA-rules states slashed the Value-Added Tax (VAT) to further give a respite to customers battered by record-high fuel prices.
Throughout this year, the prices of petrol and diesel kept fluctuating, but on many occasions, they also maintained stability. The fuel rates were sometimes stable and also touched record highs across the country. However, for the past two months, the prices have remained stable after the central government announced an excise cut on prices of petrol and diesel.
Jharkhand govt cuts petrol price
In a bid to provide relief to poor and middle class families of the state, Jharkhand government decided to give relief of Rs 25 per litre on petrol to two-wheelers from January 26, 2022. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had said that the amount of Rs 25 per litre would be transferred to the bank account of poor ration card holders. A poor family can get up to 10 litres of petrol per month.
Fuel rates in other states
Even though there has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel for around 60 days, the rate of petrol is above the Rs 100 mark in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In metro cities, the prices of petrol and diesel are the cheapest in Delhi and the costliest in Mumbai.
The rate of petrol is below the Rs 100 mark in Port Blair, Noida, Chandigarh, dehradun, Ranchi, Shillong, Panaji, Shimla, Lucknow and Delhi.
In Patna, petrol costs Rs 105.92 per litre and diesel is available at Rs 91.09 per litre. On the other hand, in Bhopal, the prices of petrol and diesel stand at Rs 107.23 per litre and Rs 90.87 per litre, respectively.
The prices of petrol and diesel vary from state to state and also in cities, depending on the incidence of local taxes like value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. As per the reports, Rajasthan levies the highest VAT in the country, followed by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The fuel rates are the highest in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar and the cheapest in Port Blair.
In Sri Ganganagar, petrol is available at Rs 112 per litre and diesel costs Rs 95.26 per litre. The prices of petrol and diesel stand at Rs 82.96 per litre and Rs 77.13 per litre in Port Blair, respectively.
