Pregnant rape victim burnt alive in UP’s Mainpuri, case filed under Pocso against 3

A pregnant girl, who was allegedly raped three months ago, was set on fire and burnt alive in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district under Kuravali police station limits.

Police have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against three people and efforts are underway to arrest them.

The girl’s mother alleged that her daughter was raped by one Abhishek, who lives in the same village, three months ago, but the victim did not reveal her ordeal to her family.

Later on, the girl complained of severe stomach pain and it was revealed that she was pregnant and, accordingly, the panchayat was informed. On October 6, it was decided at the panchayat meeting that the girl and the accused would get married.

The mother of the accused then took the victim to their house, sprinkled petrol on her, attempted to immolate the pregnant girl, the girl’s family has alleged.

The victim, who suffered severe burn injuries, was admitted to a district hospital in Mainpuri and was later referred to Saifai. On the basis of the complaint of the victim’s mother, police have filed a case under sections 307, 376 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Pocso Act. The accused are being searched for and arrests will be made soon, police said.
