Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has moved the Supreme Court against his “indefinite” suspension from Rajya Sabha.
He moved a plea in the top court, raising the issue of his suspension extending beyond one session of the House.
Calling his suspension “arbitrary and illegal”, he also stated that the Privileges committee of the Rajya Sabha did not take any action and the issue was being “indefinitely delayed”.
Raghav Chadha was suspended from the House in August for allegedly forging the signatures of five MPs — BJP’s S Phangnon Konyak, Narhari Amin and Sudhanshu Trivedi, AIADMK’s M Thambidurai and BJD’s Sasmit Patra — on a motion related to the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
The motion of suspension was moved by BJP’s Piyush Goyal, who called Raghav Chadha’s action unethical.
Following his suspension, Chadha had alleged that the move is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s attempt to silence all those who question them.
Meanwhile, AAP had accused the BJP of “making deliberate attempts to implicate” Chadha. The party further said that the allegations of ‘forged signatures’ against Raghav Chadha were “false and politically motivated”.
