A man in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district was crushed to death using a tractor over a land dispute. He was run over multiple times by the tractor.

A video of the incident went viral on social media in which locals are seen filming the murder, instead of intervening. Thirty-year-old Nirpat Gurjar was crushed under the tractor and his brother Damodar Gurjar was the one who allegedly killed him, said Omprakash Kilaniya, Assistant Superintendent of Police Bharatpur.

“The person who killed Narpat Gurjar by riding a tractor over him appears to be Damodar Gurjar, the brother of the deceased. There was a fight between the two parties three days back as well. Today, there was a fight again between them, and it seems the brother hopped on a tractor and killed Nirpat,” Kilaniya said.

The incident took place in Adda village of Bharatpur when Nirpat and Damodar’s relatives clashed with each other over a passage to be used for walking. The clash turned so violent that Nirpat Gurjar was killed using a tractor, allegedly by Damodar. Several others were injured in the incident.

There was a long-standing land dispute between Nirpat and Damodar, police said. So far, six people have been detained by the police and a search is underway to catch the rest of the accused.

The incident is drawing widespread criticism from people and the opposition in Rajasthan.

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra condemned the Rajasthan incident and said it was the condition in “all Congress-ruled states”. He also demanded Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, who was visiting the poll-bound state on Wednesday, to also visit Bharatpur.

“She (Priyanka) should go there and suspend the police officials, DM, SP and show that she has the courage to take a stand and she is not just for speeches and sloganeering. She has to project that she has a spine. This is a call to Priyanka Vadra. I challenge her to go there first,” Patra said.

Rajasthan BJP leader Gajendra Singh Shekhawat called the incident “heart-wrenching” and slammed the Congress-led Rajasthan government for it.

“Since the matter was in the cognizance of the police, it is natural for questions to be raised on it. This is a very condemnable accident, which is the result of the criminal-anarchist mentality that has arisen during the tenure of the Gehlot government,” he said in a tweet.

Notably, the Bharatpur incident comes just four days after a violent clash between Nirpat and Damodar’s families that left two people seriously injured.
