Ramayan’s ‘Sita’ Dipika Chikhlia Is Not Interested In Ranbir Kapoor’s Film: ‘Nothing Will Become As Popular’
Dipika Chikhlia is best known for playing Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Doordarshan show, Ramayan.
She is still recognised as her character today and is regarded with a lot of respect by fans. Actor Arun Govil, who played Ram on her show, will soon be seen in Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana in a different avatar. However, Dipika is not interested in leaving Sita behind.
Dipika told Siddharth Kannan that she once received an offer to play Kaushalya in a serial. However, her brother told her, “You are known as Sita, and you should die as Sita.” As such, the veteran actress is not interested in essaying any other character from the epic.
“I clearly understood that people have known me as Sita ji, and nothing will become as popular as Sagar’s Ramayan. Then why should I fiddle with my image? I am Sita. I have accepted it. For 35 years, I have taken the responsibility of being Sita, then why should I try to be something else?” she said.
Dipika understands that playing a god on screen doesn’t make one a god in real life. However, she said there is increased responsibility when one plays god on screen. “I have gotten messages from big production houses for a film, and they wanted me with a cigarette in my hand, both of them. And I said no. Sometimes I wonder, how can you even ask me something like that?” she said.
Meanwhile, according to recent reports, Ranbir has finished all major scenes for the first installment of Ramayana, leaving only minor patchwork. To ensure seamless progress without delays, the production team strategically scheduled the shoot so that his absence wouldn’t impact the film’s timeline.
Apart from Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Ram, the much-anticipated film boasts an ensemble cast, including Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Yash as the menacing Ravana. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the first installment of Ramayana is slated for a grand Diwali 2026 release, with its sequel following in Diwali 2027.
