India batter Ishan Kishan has been the talk of the town since his double-century in ODI cricket.

Kishan, who is the latest to have been given a Test match call-up, sat down with the Indian cricket team video team and spoke about his idol MS Dhoni, ahead of India’s first T20I match against New Zealand.

Ahead of the first match at his hometown Ranchi, Ishan Kishan has said that he grew up idolising MS Dhoni and has been trying to fill the legendary Indian captain’s shoes since he started playing cricket.

“My favourite cricket idol growing up was MS Dhoni, coming from the same place, me also playing for Jharkhand, I really wanted to fill his shoes. And now that I am here, I will make sure that I help my team win many games,” Kishan said in an interview with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Kishan further revealed that he has an autograph of MS Dhoni on one of his bats. “The one autograph I took was from MS Dhoni when I was 18 years old and finally met him for the first time. I am very proud to have his autograph on my bat,” Kishan said.

Stating that he started thinking about becoming a professional cricketer at the age of 14, Kishan said that it was a long journey. The Indian batter recently scored the fastest double hundred in the history of ODI cricket in a series where India were trounced in the first two matches. Kishan will be hopeful of doing well in the T20I series against New Zealand and would hope that he gets a game against Australia in the 4-match Test series that will decide the finalists for the World Test Championship.
