Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli deserve to retire when they want: Yuvraj Singh
Legendary former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli deserve to retire from T20 cricketer when they want.
Yuvraj has reminded the fans that Virat and Rohit have been loyal servants of Indian cricketers and have the right to make that choice themselves.
Virat and Rohit are expected to be the first two names in the T20 World Cup squad for India. The duo had not played the T20I format for more than a year after India’s loss in the 2022 World Cup, however, made a return in January 2024 against Afghanistan. Speaking to the ICC ahead of the tournament, Yuvraj said that the duo have the right to make their own choice, but left to him, he would like Virat and Rohit to call time on their T20I careers after the World Cup.

“I would like to see more younger players in the T20 format, because it gets the load off them (experienced players) playing 50-over (ODIs) and Test matches. After this (T20) World Cup I would like to see a lot of younger guys come into the team and make the T20 side for the next World Cup,” Yuvraj Singh further added.
India are expected to be one of the favourites to lift the tournament. They recently played an all-format series in the Caribbean islands and are expected to have a good grasp of the conditions. Kohli and Rohit’s experience is expected to play a major part for India in the slow and low pitches in West Indies.
The T20 World Cup will start on June 1.
India’s group stage matches will be played across different venues in the USA, including clashes with the USA on June 12th in New York and Canada on June 15th in Florida. Following the group stages, the Super 8 matches will shift to venues in the West Indies.
