SA vs IND: Rohit Sharma helps me maintain a positive frame of mind, says Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal has credited India captain Rohit Sharma for helping him maintain a positive frame of mind while batting after the conclusion of the Test series against South Africa.

Jaiswal has been paired alongside Rohit at the top of the order since making his Test debut during the tour of West Indies. In their first innings as an opening pair, the duo would score 229 runs, with the southpaw scoring 171 on debut.

Another 100-run stand would follow in the second Test and the duo seemed to be the ideal fit at the top of the order.

Jaiswal would set the tone for India’s chase in the Cape Town Test with an aggressive knock as Rohit played an anchor role for the side. India would win the match by 7 wickets and levelled the series 1-1.

Speaking to PTI, Jaiswal said that Rohit helps him maintain a positive frame of mind and reminds him to score quickly against the new ball.

“Rohit Sharma helps me maintain a positive frame of mind, and we needed to score runs quickly against the new ball,” said Jaiswal, highlighting Rohit’s influence on his mental approach.”

“I just wanted to give a good start, and that was all there in my mind as we had to win the match. In the last 3 innings and even in this knock, I had done the same thing,” said Jaiswal.

The South Africa tour didn’t go according to plan for the youngster as he scored just 60 runs in two T20Is and 50 across four innings during the Test series. Jaiswal admitted that there were challenges during the tour of the rainbow nation and it has been a learning experience for him.

“This tour has been a learning experience for me. I’ve learned about improvements I need to make. The ball comes differently here, and I tried giving my all, but I accept there were challenges. This experience will keep me in good stead as I am learning and would strive to improve during the next series,” said Jaiswal.
