Sachin Tendulkar reacts after Arjun Tendulkar’s maiden Ranji Trophy century: Don’t put pressure on him

Sachin Tendulkar opened up on his son Arjun’s maiden century in the Ranji Trophy that he got while playing for Goa in his maiden first-class match against Rajasthan.

Batting at No.7, the left-handed Arjun came to the middle at the fag end of the first day, after which he reached the three-figure score on the second day.

The southpaw also emulated his father Sachin, who scored his maiden Ranji century way back in 1988 against Gujarat. Sachin, who retired from international cricket back in 2013, urged people not to put undue pressure on Arjun.

Sachin said that being a son of a popular cricketer, the 23-year-old Arjun hasn’t led a ‘normal childhood’ by any means.

“Arjun has not led a normal childhood; being a son of a cricketer who has been for quite some time, it is not so easy and that is the only reason when I retired and was facilitated by the media in Mumbai, my message to them was: allow Arjun to fall in love with cricket, give him that opportunity,” Sachin was quoted as saying to Infosys at 40.

“You can follow up with various statements after he has performed. Don’t put pressure on him because I never had pressure from my parents,” he stated.

“My parents gave me the freedom to go out and express myself, there was no pressure of expectations. It was only encouragement and support and how could we go and better ourselves and that is what I wanted him to do. I kept telling him that it’s going to be challenging,” Sachin added.

After being put in to bat first, Goa scored 547 for the loss of nine wickets on the back of a 120-run knock from Arjun Tendulkar. Arjun hit 16 fours and two sixes in his knock before fast bowler Kamlesh Nagarkoti accounted for his wicket.
