Satwiksairaj Rankireddy smashes Guinness world record for fastest badminton shot during Korea Open

Indian badminton player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, popularly known as Satwik, smashed the Guinness World Record for the fastest hit by a male player.

In the sport during the Korea Open, where Satwik recorded a mind-boggling speed of 565 km/h with his smash.

This record-breaking smash has not only put Satwik on the global map but also broken a decade-long record previously held by Malaysian player Tan Boon Heong. In May 2013, Heong set the record with a smash speed of 493 km/h. However, Satwik’s recent performance has surpassed this by a significant margin, marking a new era in the sport of badminton.

The record-breaking smash was conducted in a controlled environment at the Yonex factory gymnasium in Soka, Saitama, Japan. The speed measurement results were verified by official judges from the Guinness World Records, confirming Satwik’s place in history.

Interestingly, Satwik’s smash was faster than the top speed of 372.6 km/h achieved by a Formula 1 car, highlighting the sheer power and precision involved in the sport of badminton. This achievement has brought immense pride to India and has set a new benchmark for future players.

Satwiksairaj-Chirag enters pre-quarters in Korea Open

The star duo of Satwik-Chirag won their opening round men’s doubles match at the BWF Super 500 Korea Open. The pair showcased their prowess against the Thai pair of Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren, winning the match 21-16, 21-14.

The game was a spectacle of agility, precision, and teamwork. The Indian pair demonstrated their superior skills and strategy, ending the affair in just 32 minutes. This swift victory secured them a place in the Round of 16, marking another milestone in their burgeoning careers.

Rankireddy and Shetty have been steadily climbing the ranks in the international badminton circuit. Earlier in June 2023, they had reached the semifinals of the Indonesia Open, where they were ranked sixth in the world. Their consistent performances have made them a force to be reckoned with on the global stage.
