Shubman Gill shared a special Instagram story with Rohit Sharma and daughter Samiara from the Indian team’s hotel room in Florida.

In the post, Gill said that him and Samaira have been learning the art of discipline from Rohit. Gill’s post comes amid reports of the opening batter alongside Avesh Khan being released from the Indian squad after the end of group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Gill is the travelling reserve along with the Indian team, who travelled to the USA. Speculations were rife that the team management was not happy with Gill’s conduct in the USA leg of the tour.

Contrary to the media reports, it has come to the fore that there were no disciplinary issues with Gill. Avesh and Gill will return from the USA and will not travel to the West Indies. However, it is not because of any disciplinary issues, a source in the know-how of developments in the USA told India Today. Gill was one of the four reserves who travelled with India’s 15-member squad for the marquee tournament. However, it turned out that the reports of team management not being happy with Gill are not true. There had also been rumours of Gill unfollowing Rohit on Instagram, adding more fuel to the fire. The speculations heightened the possibility of Gill’s strained relation with captain Rohit. However, the latest post might have put an end to the speculations around strained relations.

Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan were set to depart for India after the end of the group stage, while Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed would continue travelling with the 15-man squad to the Caribbean, which will host the Super 8s leg of the T20 World Cup, PTI news agency said.

Notably, the logic to release Gill and Avesh is pretty straightforward, according to PTI. If there are any injury concerns for either skipper Rohit or star batter Virat Kohli, the team has Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad of 15, who can then come in. There is no requirement for a fourth opener during the Super 8s. It has also been noted that Gill did not get a lot of batting time during the usual net sessions in New York.
