In an apparent dig at Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, the BJP has slammed former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family over the law and order situation in the state.

This comes as a man, accused of bicycle theft, died in police custody in Patna.

“A so-called bicycle thief jumped off to his death in Rajeev Nagar police station of the state capital, but nobody cares,” state BJP spokesperson Kuntal Krishna said.

“With Lalu and family at the helm of affairs in Bihar, it is an absolute lack of administration and governance that has led to such cases. This is the side effect of Lalu and his family coming back to power,” he added.

The incident happened on Thursday, when the alleged thief, identified as Shanu Pratap, jumped to his death from the third floor of the police station.

Soon after the incident, the man was rushed to a hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead.

The incident was confirmed by KM Prasad, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), law and order, Patna, who said Pratap fell to his death from the third floor while he attempted to flee police custody.

The DSP also said the visuals of the entire incident were captured on a CCTV camera.
