South Korean investigators seeking to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol have been blocked by a military unit inside the official residence compound, Yonhap reported.
Officials from the Corruption Intelligence Office which is probing Yoon over his declaration of martial law entered the compound but were “blocked by a military unit inside”, the report said.
However, it is unclear whether the Presidential Security Service (PSS), which previously obstructed investigators with a search warrant from accessing Yoon Suk Yeol’s office and official residence, would attempt to prevent his arrest. Reports from South Korea channels showed scuffles as investigators and police confronted the presidential security forces.
Yoon Suk Yeol is under criminal investigation for insurrection over his December 3 martial law attempt. His arrest would be a first for an incumbent South Korean president.
