SRH qualified for the playoffs in the top 2 position after their win against PBKS in the Indian Premier League on Sunday, 19 May.
Playing their final match of the group stage, SRH comfortably reach the target of 215 runs with 5 balls remaining, at their home in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. SRH head coach Daniel Vettori gave an inspirational speech after the win and asked his team to stay true to their aggressive approach in the tournament.
SRH have hit several high totals in the tournament, breaking the records held in the earlier seasons. One of the key features of the side has been their dominance in the powerplay with the bat where Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have taken apart the bowlers.
Speaking in the dressing room, Vettori congratulated the team for doing well in the final game and asked the side to stay true to their approach.
“Great blowout after sort of 10 days off to come together against a team that was still ready to perform. We were obviously a little rusty with the ball at the start but to fight back in the last 4 overs was incredible,” Daniel Vettori said in a video uploaded by SRH on Monday, 20 May.
“Abhishek and Rahul took the game on to win the powerplay and that is how we have won most of our games, and again that was exceptional. You have to play exceptionally well to chase those big scores,” Vettori lauded the SRH batters.
“Nothing changes when we go into the playoffs. Take the game on, play exactly the same and stay consistent and true to our methods, so, well done boys,” concluded the coach, who joined SRH in the 2024 season and had immediate impact.
SRH will play KKR in the playoff 1 in Ahmedabad. In case they lose to the top of the table team, they will get a second chance against the winners of RR vs RCB in Chennai. SRH have won only one IPL title, that too back in 2016 under the leadership of David Warner.
