T20 World Cup: No warm-up match for Pakistan and England, India to face Bangladesh

India will take on Bangladesh in their only warm-up match before the T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan, England and New Zealand are the only 3 out of the 20 teams in the tournament to avoid warm-up games before the league stage of the tournament, starting June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced 16 warm-up matches and the venues for them on Thursday, May 16. None of these matches will have international status and teams will be allowed to use all their 15 members.

India will take on Bangladesh on June 1 in the USA in their only warm-up match, but the venue for the clash was not announced. India players are expected to arrive in the USA only after the IPL final, which is scheduled for May 26. India take on Ireland in their first group-stage match on June 5 in New York before the big-ticket clash against Pakistan on June 9.

Pakistan and England will not play any warm-up matches as they will be involved in a three-match T20I series from May 25 to 30 in the UK. In fact, Pakistan played three T20Is against Ireland earlier in the month as part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup. New Zealand, on the other hand, played 5 T20Is in Pakistan in April.

In the past, every team has played two warm-up matches before a men’s ICC world event. However, the ICC explained the change in plans.

“In a departure from the previous cycle, teams can now choose to play up to two warm-up matches, depending on their arrival time at the event,” the ICC said.
