An unidentified terrorist was killed and a soldier injured in an overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Indian Army said on Wednesday.
The anti-terror operation was launched by the security forces in the Lolab area of the Kupwara district.
“Based on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by Indian Army & Jammu and Kashmir Police on days leading upto 23 July 24. On 24 July, suspicious movement was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, in response to which terrorists opened indiscriminate fire.
In the ensuing fire fight one terrorist has been eliminated and a NCO injured. Operation is in progress,” the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said in a post on X. The encounter was going on at the time of writing this news story.
Earlier last week, the security forces also neutralised at least two terrorists as they foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.
The encounter was launched based on intelligence inputs about the terrorists’ attempts to infiltrate into the valley along the LoC in the Keran sector of the north Kashmir district.
The alert security forces noticed the movement of the terrorists and challenged them. Two terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire, they said.
