High functioning anxiety is characterised by symptoms of self-doubt, fear of failure, fear of letting others down and stress. Often there are triggers that can make high functioning anxiety flare up and become worse.
Therapist Nadia Fiorita addressed this and noted down a few things that can make our high functioning anxiety accelerate. Strain or tension in friendships and relationships can make us feel the fear of rejection and abandonment, leading us to think that we are not good enough.
When we do not address past issues and keep them unresolved for a long period of time, they can become pent-up and show up in behavioural patterns. Not having enough time alone can make us feel drained and frustrated, making our high functioning anxiety worse.
People with high functioning anxiety have a difficult time adjusting to change. Any kind of change in work and life can make things worse. Not having a social support group to fall back to and share our emptions can make us suppress the difficult emotions.
