Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Dr Sudipto Roy has been removed from ex-students’ association of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for praising the hospital’s former principal, Dr Sandip Ghosh.

Dr Sudipta Roy, who the CBI also questioned in connection with the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case, praised Dr Sandip Ghosh while speaking to India Today magazine.

“Sandip Ghosh is an able administrator and a good teacher,” he said while speaking to the India Today magazine.

Roy is a member of the State Health Recruitment Board, a former president of the West Bengal Medical Council, and currently represents Sreerampore in the Hooghly district as an MLA.

In 2023, Akhtar Ali, former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, also filed a complaint against Roy accusing him of threatening Ali when he tried to raise corruption in the hospital.

In his complaint to West Bengal’s State Vigilance Commission, Ali also accused Roy of syphoning out many of the consumables and other items from RG Kar Hospital to his private hospital in north Kolkata and seeking various other informal services from the different vendors of RG Kar Hospital.

Speaking about the removal of Ghosh, RG Kar Hospital’s ex-students’ association said, “There were various complaints regarding allotment of stalls, cafeteria and two-wheeler parking area inside the campus of RG Kar Hospital.

The investigation into these financial and administrative irregularities is still going on. Everyone can understand that he can not deny his responsibility behind these scams as Chairperson of the Patient Welfare Association. It is also important to mention that he is also under investigation by the CBl and as such all the members, office bearers and everyone associated have lost faith in him”.

“After considering those serious allegations against Dr Sudipta Roy, it has been unanimously resolved in the annual general body meeting on 31.08.2024 that as per clause 6C of the constitution of ESA his membership of the ESA has been removed. So, Doctor Roy will no longer be considered as a member of the ex-students’ association, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital,” it added.

The CBI also raided the residence and nursing home of Roy in connection with the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case. According to CBI sources, the investigation revealed that former RG Kar Hospital principal, Dr Sandip Ghosh, called Roy hours after the body of a trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the hospital.

After CBI, his house and nursing home were also raided by the ED in connection with the corruption allegations against him.
