Russia’s attack on a children’s hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine has triggered massive outrage from Ukraine, the United Nations and the Western bloc.

The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has posted a tweet condemning the Russian attack on a Ukrainian hospital in Mariupol. He called for a stop to the senseless violence. The Western Bloc has termed the attack “barbaric and depraved”.

The Secretary General of the UN said on Twitter, “Today’s attack on a hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine, where maternity & children’s wards are located, is horrific. Civilians are paying the highest price for a war that has nothing to do with them. This senseless violence must stop. End the bloodshed now.”

At least 17 people were injured and many others are feared to be trapped after a Russian attack severely damaged a children’s hospital and maternity ward in Ukraine’s Mariupol, on Wednesday, March 9.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter that there were “people, children under the wreckage” of the hospital and called the strike an “atrocity.”

International leaders have also condemned Russia for targeting a children’s hospital. The White House slammed the “barbaric” use of force against civilians, while British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called the attack “depraved”.

A UN spokesman also said no health facility “should ever be a target”.
