A 21-year-old student from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad was arrested on Friday for booking a cab and sending it to actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai home to “pick up Lawrence Bishnoi”.
This came days after bike-borne men fired four rounds of bullets outside Salman Khan’s home in Mumbai’s Bandra. Lawrence Bishnoi is a jailed gangster who has been targeting Salman Khan allegedly due to the 1998 blackbuck hunting incident. His brother Anmol Bishnoi had claimed responsibility for the shooting incident.
A cab driver reached Galaxy Apartments on Thursday and asked the security guard at the gate where Lawrence Bishnoi stays. He told the guard that he was there to pick up Lawrence Bishnoi.
Police officials present at the spot heard Lawrence Bishnoi’s name and took the cab driver into custody. The cab driver was then handed over to the Bandra Police.
According to the police, the driver was asked by a person who booked the cab through an aggregator service to pick up a person named Lawrence Bishnoi from Galaxy Apartments. The cab driver had no idea the address he was given was Salman Khan’s residence and Lawrence Bishnoi is the name of a gangster, police said.
On investigation, the police found the person who booked the cab was a 21-year-old student who lives in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. The student was identified as one Rohit Tyagi. A police team reached Ghaziabad and arrested Rohit Tyagi. A case was lodged against him and he was produced before a court.
The court on Friday sent him to police custody for two days.
