West Indies Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich Announces International Retirement Days After Recall For England Series

Shane Dowrich has retired from international cricket and withdrawn from the West Indies squad for the ODI series against England, the country’s cricket board (CWI) announced on Thursday.

Dowrich was unexpectedly recalled to the West Indies squad this month, three years after his last Test and four years after his last ODI.

Dowrich made his Test debut against Australia in 2015 and went on to play 35 Tests. His only ODI came against Bangladesh in 2019, and he was set to add to it in the upcoming ODI series against England. His last outing for the West Indies was against New Zealand in December 2020. The 32-year-old played 35 Tests, scoring 1570 runs with the best of 125 not out against Sri Lanka. As a wicketkeeper, he also recorded 85 catches and five stumpings.

“We want to thank Shane for contribution when he played for West Indies,” Miles Bascombe, CWI’s Director of Cricket said. “He is a disciplined, hard-working cricketer who always gave his utmost in front and behind the stumps.

“He had a memorable series in 2019 when he made an outstanding Test century on home soil in Barbados to help us beat England and win the Wisden Trophy. We respect his decision to retire and appreciate it is not an easy one to make. We wish him all the best as he steps away from the international stage.”
