Roommate Syndrome refers to a stage in a romantic relationship where partners become more like roommates than intimate companions.

The connection loses its emotional and physical intensity, resembling a platonic cohabitation rather than a romantic bond. Communication may dwindle, and shared activities may become mundane. It often results from routine and a lack of effort to maintain the romantic aspects of the relationship.

“It is a condition where the couples live under one roof, share the same bed and space but are no longer connected to each other emotionally and physically,” says relationship coach, Jeevika Sharma.

Recognizing and addressing this syndrome involves rekindling emotional and physical intimacy, fostering open communication, and injecting novelty into shared experiences to rediscover the romantic spark and prevent the relationship from becoming merely a comfortable cohabitation arrangement.

SHARMA SHARES A FEW POINTS WHICH DEPICT ROOMMATE SYNDROME IN A RELATION:
1. When both the partners in a relationship stop talking to each other regularly or loose the comfort to easily communicate and do not share their daily updates with each other. This happen generally when neither is interested in listening to or sharing with the other anymore.

2. You live in a house more so as flatmates or roommate instead of as a couple.

3. You both stop caring about each other and don’t feel the need to do so either.

4. You have lost interest and are no longer emotionally connected to each other. As a result neither sympathises with the each either.

5. There may or may not be any sexual or physical connection between the two partners. Nor is there any will for it.

6. They have separate sets of friends with whom they like to spend their time. And, rather prefer the company of their friends over their partner.

7. When both the partners may be seeing people out of the relationship. And, their partners are aware of it without having any issues about it either.

4 WAYS ONE CAN OVERCOME THIS:
1. Talk to your partner about what they expect from the relationship. Talk to then, if at all, they want to continue the relationship or not.

2. Try to discuss your problems and strive to find a solution together. This could help reinvigorate the relationship.
