An IT professional was allegedly shot dead by her boyfriend at a hotel in Pune, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place at the Oyo Town House Hotel in the Hinjawadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad on Saturday. The accused, Rishabh Nigam, was arrested in Mumbai, said police.
Police sources told India Today that the woman, Vandana Dwivedi, worked for a reputed IT firm in Hinjawadi and Rishabh Nigam is a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow.
They had known each other for the last ten years and were in a relationship. Rishabh had come to Pune to meet Vandana and the two had booked the hotel in Hinjawadi where they had been staying since January 25.
As per police sources, Rishabh had come to Pune with a plan to kill Vandana as he had suspicions about her character. CCTV footage showed Rishabh leaving the hotel room at around 10 pm on Saturday, allegedly after shooting Vandana.
After the alleged murder, Rishabh fled to Mumbai, where he was arrested.
Police have sealed the hotel room where Vandana’s body was found and are investigating where Rishabh obtained the gun that he allegedly used to kill her.
